180 Degrees

Minneapolis, Minnesota

Founded in 1973 by Robbie Robinson, 180 Degrees, Inc. began as a bold, experience-driven response to a broken system. After spending twenty years in and out of prison, Robinson was determined to change the trajectory for others facing re-entry. Working alongside his parole officer and a group of men who, like him, understood incarceration firsthand, he developed a residential model rooted in accountability, structure, and lived expertise. The organization’s first board of directors included Robinson and fellow ex-offenders—individuals committed to building the very support system they had once needed themselves.
The Clifton Place Program emerged from this vision: a safe, structured residential environment designed to improve the odds for men transitioning from incarceration back into the community. Nearly fifty years later, the impact is profound. More than 9,000 men have been supported in rebuilding connections with their families, securing employment, maintaining sobriety, and establishing stable housing.
Today, Clifton Place operates a 37-bed residence providing short-term, affordable housing combined with daily structured programming and individualized case management. The design of the program reflects a clear philosophy: stability first. Through consistent support, clear expectations, and access to essential resources, residents are equipped with the tools needed to move toward long-term independence.
Mission
180 Degrees creates safe spaces and services that honor each individual’s healing journey.
Impact
In 2022 alone, 237 men were safely housed and engaged in structured, daily programming focused on successful re-entry. By reducing recidivism and offering a stable alternative to homelessness or unsupported release, the program strengthens individuals, families, and the broader community.
From its founding to today, the work of 180 Degrees demonstrates how thoughtful structure, lived experience, and compassionate design can transform re-entry into an opportunity for lasting change.
